The province of Santa is one of the 20 provinces of theAncash Region in Peru.

The city and the port of Santa are located in the large, fertile valleys of Santa Claus and Lacramarca rivers.These valleys are extensive sown plains with cotton, rice, sugar and food products. the city of Santa is the first colonial city of Ancash coast.

This rich Valley is formed by the outlet of the River Santa.The River Santa was born in the Conococha lagoonin the Cordillera Blanca (White Mountains). The crosses the Callejón de Huaylas ("Huaylas Alley") in all the extension.Gain the Cordillera Negra (Black Mountain) in the imposing ' cañón del Pato (Mountain trail or the Duck) and ends on the plains of Santa Claus, after a distance of 336 km (209 mi traveled).

The province of Santa was created on February 12, 1821. the capital, Chimbote, which long ago the first fishing port of the world were, it is the most important city of the coastal zone Ancash.

In 1992, was the site of a massacre of the famous ofcampesinos.
